Kia can't stop teasing the new Optima

The sedan is viewed from the rear three quarters perspective in the latest sketch.

Teaser sketches Continue to reveal The new look Kia Optima (or K5 in South Korean markets). The design of the model shouldn’t surprise us if we see it in metal.

This sketch shows the car’s side. It is similar to the one before it. The new Optima has smooth flanks, which flow back to a prominent bulge in the rear fenders. The roof is a coupe-like shape. The back has a narrow deck and the taillights extend the entire width. The rear fascia is sporty and includes integrated exhausts and a diffuser.

These sketches show the new Optima with its more aggressive front, which features a contoured nose and large inlets at the lower fascia. The grille is an exaggerated version the company’s “tiger nose” design. Revised headlights feature small lamps and jagged, lightning-bolt-shaped LED running lights.

Kia’s interior design combines a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment display. The console has a rotary dial, buttons, and a plain center console. The exterior is more striking than the interior’s minimalist aesthetic.

The powertrain range is not yet known. Expect hybrid and PHEV options to improve.

Kia teases the K5 for South Korean markets, but don’t expect the unveiling of the new Optima until 2020. According to current speculation, the American model year 2021 will be its on-sale date.
