It could go on sale in 2020.
Mazda has just revealed the updated CX-3 in March 2018. (pictured above) and now the Japanese automaker offers a few details on what to expect from the next-gen SUV model. It will arrive as soon as 2020.
According to , the next CX-3 will move to the SkyActiv II platform which would allow the SUV to grow in size. It will likely be longer than the current 168.3 inch overall length to make it smaller than the 171.2-inch-long Toyota CHR. It would also be more comfortable with improvements such as resculpted seats or a new dashboard design.
A switch in underpinnings means that the new Mazda will pack a torsion beam rear suspension instead of the multi-link system. The torsion beam axle has a lower road noise than the multi-link suspension, so we chose that option for our customers. We received a lot of complaints by the media,” Mazda director for research and development Kiyoshi Yamawara stated to GoAuto.
Mazda’s upcoming SkyActivX family of engines would be available to the CX-3. These powerplants represent the first use of compression ignition in an gasoline engine. This technology compresses fuel-air mixture until it can combust like a diesel. This technology results in a 20-30 percent increase in fuel economy over conventional gas-fueled mills, as well as a 10-30 percent increase in torque. The 2.0-liter version will produce 187 horsepower (139 Kilowatts) as well as 169 pound-feet (223 Newton-meters), of torque.
The new Mazda3 will be the first to get the engine. It will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in October. According to reports, the five-door hatchback will be inspired by the Kai concept. Sales will begin in 2019.
