Is this the New BMW 2 Series Coupe Without Camouflage or The Real Deal?

It looks like a hot M Performance version, with a small grille. It may be a 2 Series Coupe, but we aren’t 100% certain.

A couple of interesting spy photos have appeared on Instagram by Wilcoblok. Although it’s not clear where these images came from, they seem to show the next-generation BMW 2 Series Coupe without camouflage. However, the car cover conceals most of its bodywork. We are able to see significant details in the rear and front designs.

We are first and foremost pleasantly surprised at the small size of this kidney grille. It was feared it would be given the XXL treatment, as seen on the 4S Coupe. This car will be revealed later in the year. This is our hope that it’s a sign that not all BMW cars will get the inflated grille. However, that remains to be seen.

These headlights are a departure from the current design and most people would not be able to identify that they belong to a BMW. The front bumper is quite unusual with its triangular vents, and what appears to have been an M logo on it’s lower radiator grille.

M Performance? It seems that we are dealing with an M Performance model judging from the large dual exhaust tips and spoiler on the trunk lid, where the M logo and model’s designation appear to be. We’re tempted not to call this a full-fat M Model, but we think it belongs to the next M240i Coupe.

The same can be said for the taillights. Although they are more typical than recent BMWs, some might say that they send a E90 3 Series vibe. It appears that the vehicle has German license plates, which suggests it is an actual car and not a clay model. This would indicate that this design was finalized rather than one of many designs that were often left on the cutting-room floor during car development.

Given that we haven’t seen any spy photos of the next 2 Series Coupe, it is possible this could be an elaborate Photoshop. There’s a chance that this is indeed an early glimpse at the G42, as BMW enthusiasts refer to it. It will be available sometime in 2021 with a rear wheel-drive layout, unlike the FWD Gran Coupe and next Active Tourer minivan that we’ve repeatedly spotted. It’s possible that the 2 Series Convertible will not see another generation due to its clash with Z4, but this is just a rumor.

These images may be legit, but they are showing a different model. This is the successor to the 1Series Sedan that was sold in select markets including China and Mexico. We can’t see the rear profile so it is possible that the car has doors at the rear.
