Justin Chew, the Singapore Tourism Board executive director, stated that no significant changes are expected when the circus arrives in Singapore late September.
Channel NewsAsia quotes him saying that “we are not going to make significant changes to track but we will begin looking at some key changes to implement in 2011”,
He said, “Officially, there’s a new footprint around our circuit park which is a brand new MRT station and the double helix Bridge etc and those would also have an impact.”
Today, a Singapore newspaper, stated that the lap could be made faster in 2011 by shortening it. This includes removing the corner where Nelson Piquet intentionally crashed in 2008.
The Malaysian GP venue Sepang is also changing.
Razlan Razali, chief executive of Track, told the Star newspaper that work is underway to upgrade and repair the pit area and roof structure. Also, additional facilities are being built for spectators who come to watch the race.
