California Launches First Digital, Connected License Plates

Regular license plates are too complex and cannot be programmed with marketing messages.

Can we all agree that the car’s license plate is the most basic and least technical part of a car? This is a simple piece of metal that can be fitted on any car. This is the most basic of all. However, thanks to Reviver Automotive, this is no longer true.

California will soon have 100,000 digital license plates. It’s called RPlate Pro and it’s a digital numberplate. It also features built-in connectivity. We’ll get to this in a moment.

The RPlate Pro mounts just like a regular number plate. However, it is thicker and heavier than a regular plate and displays all relevant information. It can be used to display messages that are normally reserved for bumper stickers, but it is digital. Things like “My child is an honors student” or something similar, provided it’s approved and approved by your local DMV. So, we assume that statements about your kid beating up honor-roll students will remain the domain of bumper stickers purchased at Spencer

California Launches First Digital, Connected License Plates

Let’s talk about the “connected” thing. RPlate Pro integrates communications with a browser-based management software called RConnect. This will enable instant online renewals of registration without the need for stickers, paperwork or waiting in line, according to the company. Businesses can also use the system to create customized marketing slogans for their vehicle that will appear on the plate when it is parked. The registration number remains visible but shrinks to about the same size as a renewal sticker in its upper corner. It’s not ever that identifies a vehicle from a distance. We must also advertise everything. Everywhere. Every day.

The wireless registration update feature sounds great, admit it. RPlate users are being monitored by Big Brother, the mafia, aliens, and anyone else who may be interested in your every move. Although Reviver Auto is not mentioned, it’s fair to say that Reviver Auto has such functionality. But, hey, a license plate with integrated digital communications? This isn’t a huge leap. Modern cars can be tracked with the help of navigation and other connected services. Cell phones are not excluded. We don’t want license plates that talk to police cars, but this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t.

Reviver Auto today unveiled the RPlate Pro at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Galpin Ford in California is the largest Forddealership worldwide. The exact cost of these digital plates is unknown. Californians also have the option of choosing a standard plate. According to the company, Arizona is also using the digital plates and legislation has been passed to allow testing in Texas as well as Florida.

Also, digital license plates may soon be available at a DMV near to you.
