Ferrari 488 Pista beats its own top speed Watch and Listen

It’s amazing how fast it goes!

A video that opens with a Ferrari next to a Space Shuttle is likely to be good. This is especially true when the video opens up with a a data-inline-widget=”internal-links” data-params=”%7B%22alias%22%3A%22ferrari%22%7D” data-type-id=”1″ href=”https://www.motor1.com/ferrari/”>Ferrari parked next to a Space Shuttle runway in Florida. They produce all sorts of high-performance machines. You’ve seen everything, from stock Camaros down to race-prepped Porsches and even a mental Dodge Viper with 1,400 horsepower (1,000 kilowatts), tearing down the 2.7-mile stretch straight-and-true concrete. It’s now time to take in the sights and sounds from a Ferrari488 Pista.

Here’s what the Pista can do for you in the event of an emergency. A 3.9-liter twin turbocharged V8 with 710 horsepower (592 kW) is behind the driver. It’s channelled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Ferrari claims that the sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes only 2.8 seconds. Maranello claims that the race-inspired Pista will hit 211 mph.

The headline said that this Pista was faster than the average, but how fast? Telemetry indicates a mild launch. Estimates suggest that the 0-60 run took around four seconds. However, once the Prancing Horse is rolling, it can reach speeds of 150 mph in just 14 seconds. The acceleration slows to around 160 mph and 175 mph. However, it doesn’t drop dramatically until 200 mph. The speed increases one mph per second until it reaches 212 mph.

It’s not as if that velocity was only before the shut down area. For a full 10 second, the Pista was able to hold 212 mph before lifting at the 2.7 mile mark. Although the official speed is reported as 212.6 mph by the video, we are left wondering if some speed limiter might be in place. This is almost identical to Ferrari’s 211 mph claimed speed. However, it wouldn’t matter if the Pista’s steady but slow acceleration didn’t stop abruptly. Aerodynamics can be an incredible force at these speeds and the V8’s glorious tone has never wavered. The final seconds of the race were dominated by power.
