Hear the 2020 Shelby GT500 roar through its four exhaust modes

We don’t find quiet so peaceful. We don’t mind at all.

The new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500’s sound was heard at the Detroit Auto Show. We listened to the V8’s thumping sound as it was recorded by Ford using B-roll video that was also released at the time. This is something we are going to say out loud: We are very jealous of the Track for their V8 concert in New York. Click the video above to see it. For crying out loud, turn up the volume on your device.

Road & Track The GT500’s 5.2-liter V8 is accompanied by an additional surprise: a sample of the various exhaust modes. The GT500 There will be four options, with the quietest being the most audible. The video begins with an outside view of normal mode. Sport mode follows. We can’t see any difference on video between the two modes, but we can tell you that track mode is much more interesting. Whoa Nellie. The quad pipes have a lot of volume and the sound is very dirty. We like dirty.

Now, the focus shifts to the interior where we experience quiet mode. At the very least, normal and quiet seem almost identical from the inside. However, neither one seems particularly quiet. There is a slight difference between sport and track modes, but again, the Motown sound blasts through our ears. The video ends with the track mode portion. We can hear someone shouting when the driver releases the throttle. You can get used to it if you have neighbors who buy one of these.

Although the GT500 was finally revealed last month, we are still missing some details. Ford claims more than 700 horsepower from its supercharged V8 of 5.2-liters under the vented hood. However, an exact number is still being determined. We don’t know any specific performance metrics yet. However, we do know that the GT500 is determined to beat the Dodge Challenger Hellcat at drag strip and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 along the road course.

With the Shelby’s sale, those matchups are certain to happen.
