The GT-R is able to compete with more modern machines.
The Nissan GT-R is an older sports car standard by . It was first shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. However, incremental improvements over the years have made the vehicle extremely competitive in its segment. You want to see the proof? You can see the four-way drag race between a 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and a Audi R8 Power, BMW M850i and a GTR Nismo.
The first challenge is to run a quarter mile from a standing position. The Audi and Porsche are both standing side-by-side at the finish line. However, the Nissan pushes hard in the final lap of race. The R8 wins the race, while the GT-R finishes second. Just a tenth of second behind the 911, the 911 is just one tenth. The M850i comes in a distant fourth.
Then they will do a rolling race at 50 miles an hour (80 km per hour). The R8 and GT-R leap ahead of the others and take control. The GT-R finally takes the win.
The braking test is performed at 70 mph (113 km/h). The R8 is only inches ahead of the 911, which has the longest stop distance. To stop, the GT-R or M850i must travel longer distances.
Nissan executives have suggested that they are working on a new GT-R and a replacement to the similarly-old 370Z. The company has not yet specified a date for either one.
The R8’s next generation is on its way, and it will likely arrive much sooner than the GT-R. Audi plans to equip the new supercar with an electrified engine , and perhaps even a complete EV setup.
