You might be fooled by the photography into believing that this is an off-roader.
Hobbyists can enjoy the thrill of driving a high performance vehicle while keeping it small and affordable. This impressive video shows a Toyota FJ Cruiser-bodied RC car rock crawling on rough terrain.
As the SUV climbs over rugged terrain, it’s thrilling to see the suspension of the vehicle. This clip is also quite relaxing due to the sound of water running through the babbling stream and the wind blowing in the trees. You want to take in all the details and relax. The maker filmed the action using an iPhone XS equipped with a 3-axis gimbal, and then edited the video to run at about half speed.
The vehicle shown in the clip is an Axial SCX10III RC vehicle chassis, according to Hoon’s channel. It is sold with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited chassis, but the owner swaps in a FJ Cruiser to make this build.
This rig features all the same features as an SUV, but larger. Portal axles allow for better ground clearance. It is equipped with three-piece beadlock wheels and Nitto Trail Grappler tires. Adjustable damping is provided by the oil-filled shocks. The differentials and transmission have metal gears for durability.
The SCX10 III kit is available from Axial for $399.99. This includes the chassis and body. The kit does not include components such as the radio transmitter, receiver and motor. Although it is expensive, a genuine FJ Cruiser will cost thousands to purchase and more to transform into an odd-roader as aggressive as this RC vehicle.
