Brabus 900 crawler Is A Ludicrous AMG-G63 Buggy With 888 Horsepower

The dune racer is illegal on public roads and costs $793,000.

“What will they think about next?” This is the question we ask ourselves when Brabus releases one of its crazy creations. We are amazed at the Bottrop engineers’ creations when that time comes. The German tuner is hungry for crazy projects that are based on the G63. Some of its bizarre creations fill niches Mercedes will not. It’s time for the “ultimate desert racer”: a pickup truck, a V12 and some other gear.

The Brabus 900 Crawler, which is essentially a buggy that’s hardcore, is the most impressive G-Class-based project we’ve ever seen. It is as insane as Mercedes’ G63 6×6 and Mercedes’ own G63 900 Crawler.

However, it is not legal to drive on the roads. Yes, the G is not allowed to be driven on public roads. The aftermarket specialist did not want to make compromises for the sake the the license plate.

The Crawler’s impressive 53 cm (20.8 inches) ground clearance means it can handle any terrain. The Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, which have a combined 29.4 cm (11.6in) and 27.4cm (10.8in) maximum ground clearance, are compared.

Brabusplaced portal axles in the vehicle, just like other unusual G builds. To tackle difficult terrain, the suspension has a bespoke height-adjustable spring that can travel up to 16 cm (6.3 inches). The suspension is forged from one piece and has 40×13.50R20 off-road tires. It’s accompanied by disc brakes at 400mm frontal and 370mm back.

The engine will see its displacement increase to 4.5 Liters. The twin-turbo V8 produces a staggering 888 horsepower (662kW) at 6,200 RPM and 1,250 Nm (922 Lb-ft), from 2,900 RPM. To preserve the reliability of the nine-speed auto gearbox, torque is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm (774lb-ft). The Crawler can still go 0-60 mph (100 km/h), despite being designed to travel off the beaten track in 3.4 seconds. Because of its off-road tires, the Crawler can only travel 100 mph (160 km/h).

The G63 has lost a lot of weight after removing many body panels. It is still quite a beast at 2,065 kg (4,553 lbs), although the European specification standard vehicle weighs in at 2,485 kg (5.478 lbs). The Crawler has lost approximately 420kg (926 lbs) of body fat. This is a remarkable feat considering Brabus also added portal axles to the Crawler and a tubular frame made of high-strength, steel.

Pricing is a serious issue. The Crawler is priced at EUR749,000, including VAT. At current exchange rates, that works out to about $793,000. You’ll get four carbon helmets as well as an intercom system. Brabus will make 15 vehicles, and one third of them will be delivered before the end. Five more vehicles will be delivered in 2023, and five more in 2024.
