Toyota V8 Engines will be replaced with Twin-Turbo, V6 engines: Report
Slowly, the company will switch from producing the V8 to producing the twin-turbo version of V6.

According to a source familiar with U.S. manufacturing operations, Toyota will replace its UR-family V8s engines with a twin-turbo V6. The forced induction powerplant will replace the eight-cylinder engine in vehicles such as the Tundra and Sequoia.

An anonymous insider claims that. The DriveToyota’s Alabama engine plant is currently producing around 30,000 V8 engines in order to keep a stockpile of the powerplant for existing models. Once the components are complete, all sections of the plant will be able produce the V6 as soon as possible. Japan’s factory would continue to produce the V8 for the vehicles that still require them. This should take around two to three more years. However, the factory would eventually switch to building the V6.

These insiders’ claims match closely with leaks and rumors from Toyota. According to reports, the next-gen Tundra will debut in December 2021 with the new TNGA F platform. It may also feature a hybrid-assisted twin turbo V6 for its top-of-the-line grade. The twin-turbo V6 will likely be used in the less rugged successor to Lexus LX. According to various reports the next Land Cruiser will also use the hybrid /standard versions of the powerplant.

However, Lexus will not completely eliminate V8s. The company announced in December 2019 that it would be using a twin-turbo V8 for its LC racecar in the Nurburgring 24 Hours Race. This powerplant was said to be “destined for future road cars, such as sports cars.” A recent rumor suggested that the LX-successor would be a version with 600 horsepower (447kilowatts).
