The GTI has subtle improvements over the standard GTI.
The Golf GTI Mk8 was introduced by Volkswagen at the end February. It boasts 241 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline motor. VW is the right choice if you’re looking for a more powerful version of Wolfsburg’s hot hatch, but without the need to buy an all-wheel-drive R model. After being briefly available during the Mk7’s lifespan, the TCR is a more track-oriented version of the most beloved hot hatch in the world.
The side profile shows that the prototype is sitting closer to the road, and has drilled front brakes beneath the new alloy wheels. The prototype also has a chunkier rear spoiler that is mounted on the roof, and a diffuser. These exhaust tips are a little larger than the standard GTI. The car does not have camo. However, it may be missing some bits.
According to leaked images, the TCR version will increase the power output from 241 horsepower to 296 to match its Spanish counterpart, the don’t-call it-a-SEAT Cupra Leon. The same should hold true for torque. Look out for something in the range of 295 pound feet (400 Newton-meters). We don’t know if VW will offer this car with a manual transmission, but we are tempted to believe that it will only be available with the DSG.
The wraps will be removed in the coming months. The range-topping R is expected to arrive later in the year. We don’t think there will be a new flagship with 400 horsepower, but it is possible.
