Following yesterday’s report on the imminent debut of a hybrid Range Rover, Tata Motors has proudly presented its first-ever PHEV. The Range Rover Sport’s more agile SUV is now available. It adopts JLR’s new nomenclature and hides its charging port at the right side of the grille.
Let’s now get to the technical details. The engine is a turbocharged four cylinder gasoline 2.0-liter engine. It works with an electric motor located on the transmission to create the plug-in hybrid powertrain. The engine produces 300 horsepower (221 Kilowatts), while the e-motor generates 116 horsepower (85 kW). This combination gives the Range Rover Sport the most economical of all, with a combined output power of 404 HP (297 kW) as well as 640 Newton-meters (472 pounds-feet) torque.Range Rover Sport P400e is able to travel up to 31 miles (51 km) on its own electric power thanks to a 13.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. A full charge of the battery will take approximately 2 hours 45 minutes if the vehicle is equipped with a 32-amp wall box. The standard 10 amp cable can be used to recharge the battery in 7 hours 30 minutes.
The hybridized SUV will only consume 2.8 liters / 100 km in the optimistic New European Driving Cycle. This is 84 mpg US and 101 mpg UK, respectively. It also emits 64 g/km CO2. These numbers are amazing considering the vehicle’s weight and size. The new P400e consumes less fuel but it is still fast. It can reach a respectable top speed at 137 mph (220 km/h) when it is in EV mode and 85 mph (135 kph).Range Rover Sport’s model year change does not just include the new plug-in hybrid variant. It also includes a beefier version. SVR . The 5.0-liter V8 engine produces an additional 25 hp (20 Nm) and 15 lb/ft (20 Nm), for a total of 575 horsepower and 515 Lb-ft (515 lb-ft (705 Nm). The supercharged power allows the SVR to sprint at 176 mph (283 km/h) in 4.5 seconds.
Land Rover has updated the styling of all Range Rover Sport models with a slimmer grille, and revised LED headlights. Designers also worked with engineers to tweak the front bumper. The new air vents improved airflow and engine cooling. The SUV’s rear now features a more aggressive spoiler. New 21- and 22 inch alloy wheels designs, along with a black exterior pack, complete the exterior changes.
The 2018 Range Rover Sport (P400e) has slimmer front seats and new ebony vintage tannin and ebony moon themes. The semi-aniline leather upholstery was borrowed from the larger Range Rover. Ambient lighting is now available in 10 colors. The Nanoe cabin air-ionization system boosts the quality of air by using nano-sized, charged water particles to dissolve harmful substances.
One of the most interesting features is the ability to use gesture controls for the electrically operated roof sunblind. This can be done by making a reverse swipe in front the rearview mirror. Two 10-inch touchscreens are part of Touch Pro Duo’s infotainment system. These are complemented by a 12-inch digital driver’s screen and a 10-inch full color head-up display.
Land Rover Europe is taking orders for the new Range Rover Sport and will begin customer deliveries towards end of year.
