It has been a long time coming. Toyota has finally revealed the first photos and details of the highly anticipated GT 86 sportscar, the production version of the initial FT86 concept. This car is much anticipated since its launch in October 2009.
It will be available in Japan and Europe as the result of a partnership between Toyota and Subaru. The Subaru BRZ will be available worldwide, as well as the Scion FR–S in North America.
Subaru’s 2.0-liter flat-four engine is horizontally opposed. It has been enhanced by torque-enhancing D-4S injector technology. Maximum power output is 200 PS (147kW/197 hp at 7,000 RPM, maximum torque is 205 Nm (151 lb-ft), and it is at 6,600 RPM that the engine produces its maximum power output.
It measures 4,240mm in length, 1,285mm in height, and 2,570mm width, making it one of the most compact four-seater sport cars on the market. With a weight distribution ratio 53:47 (front to rear), the GT 86 has a near perfect balance. A flat-four engine layout and low driver position have also allowed the GT 86 to achieve a low center of gravity of only 475mm.
At the Tokyo motor show, the new Toyota GT 86 is going to be revealed for the first-time.
