Although the 2 Series Active Tourer is not the most popular BMW car, it is a strong selling vehicle for the brand in Europe. New spy photos show that the automaker has made significant progress in developing a new minivan generation.
Although we’ve seen the 2AT test several times, this is the first time that a prototype of the vehicle has been fitted with production lights. The headlights at the front are inspired by the new 3 Series and 4 Series. The good news is that the radiator grille is a fairly normal size. Although it’s larger than the previous model, it is still considerably smaller than the M3/M4.
The rear layout is very similar, but the new taillights have larger LED strips and create the illusion of a larger car. Although the exact design of the bumper cannot be seen at this stage, there may be crossover-inspired modifications to give the Active Tourer a stronger appearance.
Spies have shown BMW has made some changes to the car’s proportions. This will make it sportier and more aerodynamic. This includes changes to the greenhouse, location of side mirrors and rear wiper, which is now attached to the bottom portion of the rear windows.
The UKL platform will be used to build the 2 Series Active Tourer. It will feature the same engine range as the 1 Series. The new 2 Series Active Tourer will be equipped with a range of turbocharged gasoline- and diesel engines, as well as a plug in hybrid powertrain. Some sources claim that the three-cylinder 1.5-liter diesel engine in the 216d may be retired.
