The 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine of the Golf GTI Cabrio produces 210 PS (155kW /208 hp) as well as 206 lbs ft (228 Nm) of torque.
Volkswagen has revealed the first images and details about the most powerful production Golf GTI Cabriolet ever made. This is the first time that we have seen an open-top version of the Golf GTI Cabriolet since its first generation. It will likely be the last variant of the current model series.
A 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder engine powers the Golf GTI Cabrio. It produces 210 PS (155kW /208 hp) at 1,700rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox. The GTI hatch can accelerate from 0-100kph (0-60 mph) in 6.9 seconds. However, the Golf GTI Cabriolet can only accelerate to that speed in 0.4 seconds due to its aerodynamic limitations. Maximum speed is 147 mph (236kph).
The Golf GTI Cabriolet has an electricly powered fabric roof. It folds down in 9.5 seconds and can run at speeds up to 18 mph (30 km/h).
The sales will start in the second half 2012, with pricing to be announced closer the launch date. The Geneva Motor Show will offer a chance to see the Golf GTI Cabriolet in action.
