You don’t need to walk when you can drive.
Toyota announced in 2019 that it would support the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by providing an EV called the Accessible People Mover, which is a mobility vehicle for disabled people.
Coronavirus, another virus, struck, which delayed the Olympic Games’ scheduled for last year. It pushes through this year, which is still taking place at the time this writing.
Toyota has pulled its Tokyo Olympics ads for undisclosed reasons. However, the Japanese automaker made its presence known by displaying a fun-looking EV during an MLB game.
The electric vehicle may look familiar. It’s a modified version the APM mobility car that was first announced in 2019. These revisions are specifically for baseball and include a roof removal and a rear seat that looks like a mitt. The EV’s cute design can be used to transport substitute pitchers. It’s certainly a fancy way for players to be transported, so MLB should look into getting one.
APM’s original mobility vehicle was created to transport staff and visitors at large events or venues, such as the Olympics. It is a low-speed, long-distance battery electric vehicle (similar to a golf cart) with 100 km (62 miles).
The original design was intended to hold more people in a three-row layout, but the new APM is much fancier thanks to the baseball-themed design. It will not be available officially until after the games. We are just curious.
For a long time, the Japanese automaker has been exploring small-sized mobility EVs. One of these was the Toyota C +pod last year. It aimed to offer mobility in a small package that is ideal for urban and community applications.
