It will launch in India sometime next year.
Citroen’s C1, the smallest offering, is headed to the automotive scrapyard as more people choose SUVs and crossovers over small cars. The C1’s death won’t mean that it will be without an entry-level product. The French automaker has revealed new spy photos that it is testing a replacement for the C1 – a compact crossover internally codenamed C21. These spy photos are the first of the new model. It will be launched in India later in this year.
These photos show a compact with high riding capabilities, covered in camouflage that hides many details. The new Citroen will be riding on the PSA Group’s Common Modular Platform, (CMP), which supports a number of vehicles including the rumored Jeep model. It’ll somehow fit below the Renegade. This platform is different from the one that underpins the C5 Aircross SUV which was just launched in India. The Citroen 21 will be launched in India, but our spy photographers captured it cold-weather testing north of Sweden.
Details about the powertrain are still unknown, but it is likely that a gasoline-powered model will be available. It will likely have turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines. Citroen will likely offer the turbocharged models a manual gearbox. The naturally aspirated models will have the option of a manual or automatic. It is hard to see the C21’s exterior, but it seems it will have Citroen’s unique design DNA.
Compact stature is helped by the C21’s flat front and short overhangs. We don’t have any interior photos so we can only guess what the interior will look like. However, don’t expect to see a lot of premium materials. The new model will be the entry-level offering of Citroen India. It will receive three models. The compact Citroen crossover will arrive in India before the end of this year. It will compete with a growing number of compact competitors like the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue.
