It is a Stellantis test mule with Opel DNA.
Although automotive spy photography is not an exact science, we do have a good idea of what vehicles are being filmed. Sometimes, however, visual cues and insider info combine to provide some clues as to what is underneath the camouflage. This is one such instance.
It’s obvious that we are dealing with a small crossover. But for which automaker? Our spy photographers were able get a close-up look and can show us what they saw. Headlights and taillights are from the Opel Mokka. This vehicle profile looks very similar to the Mokka (below right), especially with the C-pillar up-kink and high beltline.
So, the simple answer is that we are seeing a new Opel mokka. The current-generation Mokka, which was launched for Europe last year, is still brand new. While a quick facelift may be possible, this test vehicle still wears the same heavy coverings and fake panels that are usually associated with a completely new generation. This camouflage is also used to conceal new models. We believe that this could be the Fiat Uno returning.
In this case, all new would seem a little exaggerated as the vehicle would use CMP platform which already underpins many models in the Stellantisfamily. The Mokka, Citroen C4, DS3 Crossback, and Peugeot 2008 are all included. These models are all recent so the test vehicle is unlikely to be for any of them. There has been talk within the Fiat community about a new subcompact that uses a shared platform. Fiat’s Uno name was used for over three decades. It was only recently that the Novo Uno was introduced in South America. A Uno resurrection in order to create a small crossover could be very timely.
A debut is unlikely to happen for at least a year if that’s true. We are keen to learn more about the situation before we place any bets.
