The Mustang is stronger, but the Supra has more power.
Although they are not direct competitors, the Ford Mustang or Toyota Supra offer similar driving experiences. Both are rear-wheel-drive, front-engine coupes that have enough power to burn rubber. There are some differences between the two that make it difficult to predict which car will win in a drag race. The Mustang is more powerful, while the Supra has more power. A new video from Motor YouTube channels settles the matter.
The Mustang is available in Mach 1 specification, which is the most expensive trim in Australia. The Mustang comes with a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8. It produces 463 horsepower (345 Kilowatts) as well as 410 pound-feet (556 Nms) of torque. This is a significant increase over the Supra’s 382 horsepower (285 kW) or 368 lbft (556 Newton-meters) respectively. However, the Toyota has a 604-pound (274-kilograms) weight advantage. The Supra does not have a rear seat like the Mustang.
Four drag races were performed by the two sports cars: a launch control, street, roll start in automatic mode and a roll start in manual mode. Although the Supra won each of these races, there were differences in their results. The Supra won by several cars lengths the first race. Street start races were held in the most relaxed settings (automotive, comfort mode) and the Supra took home the victory by a bumper. Final rolling start races saw their results fall between the two.
The numbers show the Supra’s superior performance. Toyota’s quarter-mile record was 12.55 seconds, at 116 miles an hour (187 km per hour). It reached 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.49 seconds. It took 12.89 seconds to complete the quote Emile at 114 MPH (185 Kph). To reach 62 mph, it took 4.86 seconds. This race proved that a performance car is more than its horsepower.
