Ken Block Will Not Say No to Drifting the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400

Block is the driving force behind this EV prototype.

It was inevitable. It was inevitable. The electric vehicle that was the most tire-slapping to emerge from Ford Performance and RTR had to meet with Ken Block, Ford’s head for tire slaying. The meeting happened sooner than expected and a video crew was present to capture the action behind the Mustang Mach-E 1400’s wheels.

The video is available on Ken Block’s YouTube channel. It also features Ford pro driver Vaughn Gittin Jr., who has already been given seat time in the monster EV Mustang. Block actually brought two monster Mustangs to this exhibition. He also brought his non-electric Hoonicorn for a EV-versus ICE comparison. This is a great comparison as both vehicles can turn all four wheels at 1,400 horsepower (1.044 kilowatts).

The Hoonicorn is the engine. The Mach-1400 debut actually has seven motors. There are three in the front and four at the back. This arrangement gives you a wide range of power management options for various performance applications such as drifting, racing, and even just eating insane donuts. The Mach-E 1400 can actually switch the wheels to reverse on one side of a car, allowing for the most nausea-inducing automobile spin cycle. Unfortunately, this feature is not demonstrated in the video.

But, we can smell all types of tire smoke. Block tests the Mach-E1400 with Gittin Jr. as his passenger offering assistance. After a few practice runs behind the wheel, Block starts to rip aggressive powerlides like a pro. He is clearly impressed by the speed and torque. He mentions that noise is his biggest adjustment between Mach-E 1400 & the Hoonicorn. The intense screaming of electric motors doesn’t make any sound. Or, rather, it’s not the sound that usually accompany such powerful thrust.

This is where the Hoonicorn steps in. With daylight rapidly fading, both roles are reversed. Block is the passenger, while Gittin Jr. experiences the loud Hoonicorn firsthand. The power is amazing, but the flames coming from the hood are more memorable. This is something you won’t get in the Mach E 1400.

We were obligated at this point to ask. Which car would you choose if both of these cars were available to you for an afternoon of tire-smoking fun?
