It could happen.
Rumours of a Panamera with two doors have circulated on the internet for over a decade, despite the fact that we first heard about a coupe version in April 2009. Now, August 2020 is fast approaching and you won’t find a modern-day Porsche 928 at your local Porsche dealer.
Porsche could make the Panamera a 2+2 grand touring vehicle, allowing it to compete with the BMW 8 Series and the next generation Mercedes SL. It would be bigger than the 911, prioritize comfort over driving spiritedly, and offer more cargo space than the Nine Eleven.
We believe that Porsche is not giving the model the green light. This makes it unlikely that the model will be released in the next three-years, even if they approve it. It would therefore be based on Panamera’s next-generation model, as the current model is already in the second phase. The Sport Turismo wagon retains the name “Panamera”, but a two-door coupe or convertible would probably go with a different name. As a successor to the 928 that was built between 1977-1995, the adjacent rendering suggests the creation of a “929”.
