Fiat still covers all bases.
Manufacturers who opt for electrified routes have always found small city cars a lucrative business opportunity. Fiat The latest manufacturer to unveil their new, fully-electrified 500e. City cars are small in size and require very little driving effort. This makes it easy to fit an electric motor with decent range. The e-bikes are not only more efficient, but they also have a lot of range. 500e This will appeal to early adopters and smart mobility users. However, there is still a market for vehicles that run on internal combustion engines. Fiat understands this.
Although the 500e is Fiat’s latest venture into the world of EVs it has made clear that it will not replace the Fiat 500. The 500e was designed from the ground up as an EV. However, the 500 will continue to be available in both hybrid and combustion engine forms. Olivier Francois, Fiat boss, stated that the 500e will still be available in petrol engine form as long as buyers request it. Francois also indicated that the EV platform targets premium buyers while the current model is aimed at a lower price range. This bipolar strategy complements the fact that Fiat 500 sales tend to be bipolar and are dominated either by higher-end models or base models.
Francois also says that EVs have a greater potential than ever before, but the timing must be right for each country and market. “We must be prepared. There is a demand for these products today, and regulations will make it explode. We don’t know how high it will go. Now we have one nameplate that can be used with both approaches. We will continue to offer the 500. We’ll continue to offer both revolution and evolution with the electric 500. We’ll keep offering the former as long as there’s a demand for it.
