Porsche’s best-selling electric car, the Taycan Turbo, is not one of its top-tier models.
Tesla was able to reach the Nurburgring in just a few minutes after Porsche had announced it would set a new lap time there with its fully-electric Taycan. It is believed that the Tesla Model S achieved a lap time of 7:23 at the famous German race track. This was 19 seconds faster than the Taycan Turbo. It’s an unofficial result that could be challenged if Porsche returns to the track. The report confirms an earlier report. Porsche set the record in the Taycan Turbo and not the Taycan Turbo S.
Lukas Kramer, Porsche Taycan product manager, told Cars Guide that the Taycan could achieve a faster lap time. In their standard driving modes, the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo S produce 616 horsepower (460kilowatts). The Turbo S can produce a maximum 751 horsepower (560 kW), 774 pound-feet (1.049 Newton-meters) and 671 hp (671 kW), while the Turbo S produces 626 lb/ft (849 Nm) and 671 HP (500 kW).
Porsche could benefit from this extra performance to reduce its lap record time by a few seconds. If Tesla beats the new record, it could be a great opportunity for the German automaker. Porsche could win the record with a second attempt using the Taycan Turbo S. Porsche did not take the Turbo S to track because it wanted to use the car that had just completed a 24-hour test drive in order to set the record lap. Porsche only changed the tires prior to the race
The battle for EV supremacy heats up. The first Tesla competitor is Porsche, and Tesla seems determined to keep up with the rest of the pack. As other automakers, such as BMW or Mercedes-Benz, begin to produce electric vehicles, this will be more challenging. As new players attempt to challenge established kings, electric vehicle performance will be a battleground in the coming months and years. Consumers can count on one thing when it comes cars: the insatiable desire to win. That’s great news for consumers.
