BMW 218i Cabrio uses all 134 HP for Heroic Autobahn Top Speed Run

It finally got there.

The first-generation BMW 2 Series offers a wide range of options. The F22/F23 series offers a wide range of options, from diesels to a modest 1.5-liter gasoline engine to the highly-performance M2CS models. The F22/F23 series’ most prominent engine is the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. It produces 134 horsepower (100 Kilowatts) as well as 162 pound-feet (220 Newton meters) of torque.

Although these numbers aren’t huge, they provide enough fun for tail-happy fun (unlike the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupe) and a straight-line run in unrestricted areas of the German Autobahn.

This is exactly what powers the 2 Series Convertible shown in the video. The Bimmer Cabrio managed to travel 198 km/h (123 miles/h) despite its small engine. Although it was slower to reach these speeds, it did eventually get there.

Last year testing in the Arctic Circle revealed that the next-generation base2 Series was seen. Although we don’t know the exact details of the powertrain, fans would love to see that both the next 2 Series coupes and convertibles will run on rear wheels.

The next BMW M2 model is in development. According to previous reports, a tuned S58 engine from M3/M4 will be used. Expect the inline-six twin turbo 3.0-liter engine to produce at least 420 horsepower and 406 lbft (550 Nm). A six-speed manual is still possible, which is good news considering the declining number of stick-shifts available in new cars.

In the coming months, we’ll learn more about the 2 Series coupe- and convertible models as well as the M2 hotter model. The BMW 2 Series regular models will be launched this year. It is expected that the M245i will be the most popular model.
