What could go wrong?
Mike from shows, in a stunning display of mechanical curiosity and over-the-top sympathy, what happens when your car is driven at 65 mph (104 km/h)
Ford Built Tough:
You probably know by now that the 1994 test truck was not the fastest vehicle on earth. It was only capable at 35 mph (56 km/h in first gear), so it took a lot of space to reach 65. Fortunately, the same quiet stretch as the previous test would be sufficient.
For our viewing pleasure, forward gears aren’t as idiot-proofed than reverse. Mike was able to still get the car into first. It took only two extreme downshifts to get the Ranger going bang, unlike the previous experiment using wrong-way drive.
What’s in a Name?
We weren’t expecting the mechanical failure to be as dramatic. In fact, it was almost invisible from the onboard video. After dumping the clutch, there was a loud click and the vehicle wouldn’t get into gear. He had to park the truck and make the call to his wife for him to pick him up to drive him home.
We are looking forward to the autopsy of the truck, which will reveal the exact cause. We would guess it was the clutch or the transmission. But let’s just wait and see.
