Dodge Charger and Durango Police Vehicles Get Small Upgrades in 2021
Order books are now available.

Ford is the most popular automaker for police vehicles. But Dodge has created a niche with its Charger, and Durango Pursuit cars. The order books for the 2021 model-year are open and receive a few minor updates. They will however have a staggered production beginning.

Dodge will make its TorqueFlight eight speed automatic gearbox available for both the Charger’s powertrains. Dodge will offer a new V6 engine with all-wheel drive, and a Hemi V8 in rear-wheel drive. Dodge does not go into detail about each powertrain but says both exceed the acceleration, brake, and handling characteristics of the prior vehicle. Although the top speed is limited to 140 mph (225 km/h), agencies will be able to adjust their top speed. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Google Maps are also available.

Durango Pursuit has several interior changes, including moving the shift lever from center console to instrument panel to make space. Black steel wheels are available with chrome center caps. The SUV also includes police-specific front seats to accommodate duty belts and four programmable secondary switches. Dodge also offers its Vehicle Systems Interface Module, standard vinyl flooring and a heavy duty brake package. Dodge restricts the SUV’s maximum speed to 130 mph (209 km/h), but customers can adjust their own speeds, just as the Charger.

Although order books are open now, production will not start simultaneously for either. The 2021 Dodge Charger Pursuit cars will start rolling off the assembly lines in the fourth quarter. The 2021 Durango Pursuit will not be available to departments or agencies until the first quarter in 2021.
