2021 Genesis G80 Dissected for Nearly an Hour in Two Videos

The suave luxury sedan is worth a closer look.

For obvious reasons, there is not much happening right now in the world of new-vehicle launches. The 2021 Genesis G80, which was just covered in South Korea via livestream event on March 29, is getting all kinds of attention. We suspect that the G80 would attract such attention, even if it were business as usual. It’s quite the sight.

Asian Petrolhead has uploaded two videos on YouTube that confirm this assessment. They take a close look at the reborn luxury sedan. The G80 was only available to a small group of South Korean journalists. This video is posted at the end of the article. The grille is shown up-close. We can see not only the parking sensors and cameras, but also the front radar. We also get up-close views at the quad headlight design, which first appeared on the GV80 SUV. Not to mention the attractive LEDs mounted on the fender.

The camera can also be seen in the trunk. It shows various details, including the location of the rear-mount batteries. This is where you would normally find a spare wheel. The camera also goes under the hood to see the three engines that the sedan will be offering in South Korea. The turbocharged 2.5-liter four pot will produce 300 horsepower (223kW), while the 2.2-liter four cylinder diesel produces 207hp (154kW). Although the diesel is unlikely to be available in North America, the range-topping twin-turbo V6 with 375 horsepower (279kW) will .

The interior of the G80 is carefully examined. We focus on the legroom and comfort for rear-seat passengers, as well as the equipment and vehicle modes that the driver can use. The dash is dominated by the 14.5-inch infotainment display. We also get a detailed look at G80’s new steering wheel.

The second video (above), rehashes all the details and also shows a first-drive in a G80 with the V6. It’s a car that we cannot wait to test out in the United States. Although it’s not clear when, it is expected to happen sometime in 2020.
