It sounds great.
The next-generation Civic Type R is hot on the heels yesterday’s official Teaser Images. Honda’s hot hatch was seen in Germany, where it was being tested. The prototype was racking up miles before the launch next year. Although it had Brembo brakes and a rear wing, the test car did not have some production parts.
The taillights are a provisional setup that was only used during the initial stages of testing. But the most striking feature is the exhaust layout. Instead of the three-tip configuration in the middle, the prototype features a simple single-tip arrangement on the left. The trailer hitch is now located in the middle of the Civic Type R’s special exhaust that resembles the Ferrari 458 Italia.
The prototype is quite good, despite having a simple exhaust system. The Civic Type R will be Honda’s last European car to have a pure gasoline engine without electrical assistance. It has already hybridized most its Euro-fleet, so the performance hatch will be the last chance for those who want an ICE-only vehicle.
The next Civic Type R will come from the Indiana plant, as Honda has closed the Swindon UK plant. Honda’s Swindon plant in the UK has been closed. The Civic Type R will be produced at the Indiana factory. Honda already confirmed the availability of a manual gearbox for both the Type R and the Si sedan.
The vehicle is expected to go on sale in the United States by the end of next-year at an estimated price of $40,000. The warm four-door Civic Si will be on sale in the United States towards the end of next year at an estimated starting price of $40,000.
