Land Rover Defender Production Shut Down Due to Chip Shortage

Since last year, the British automaker has been struggling to produce.

You should know that the automotive industry faces another threat than the coronavirus pandemic. It is the shortage of semiconductors. Land Rover, the latest automaker facing production problems, is affecting both the Defender & Discovery.

According to Autocar a report states that the global chip shortage has caused the British automaker to stop production at its Nitra plant in Slovakia. It can produce 150,000 vehicles per year.

According to a JLR spokesperson, the company faces supply chain problems due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as the availability of semiconductors. According to reports, this has caused delays in production.

A spokesperson for the company stated that it is working closely to its suppliers to resolve the problem and minimize the impact on customer orders. The spokesperson did not give a time frame for when production at the Slovakian plant will resume. As a result, the wait times for Defender and Discovery will likely increase.

JLR has been experiencing production problems since last year. The company announced more than a year ago that Land Rover Defenders are in short supply due to limited production caused by the pandemic.

Cars use lots of semiconductors to run their computer-controlled systems. Increased complexity in car features means increased dependence on computers.

There is no clear solution to the global chip shortage at this time. As such, you can expect to see more adjustments in production schedules and a short supply of cars to satisfy customer demand.
