Mercedes presented a new concept for armoured trucks to the defense industry. The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Light Armoured Patrol Vehicle 6.X was unveiled last month at Eurosatory 2010, Paris.
The 6.X is based on the LAPV5.4 and was designed to transport larger cargo and provide greater protection while also providing agility. The concept uses a common-rail diesel engine which allows it to reach 150 km/h (93 MPH) even when carrying 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs).
Many agencies would love the truck’s armour plates design. This allows repair teams to quickly remove and replace damaged parts. Additional plates of armour can be added quickly and as required. Protection from landmines can also be added to the LAPV’s floors.
Variable air shock absorbers, which can be adjusted to adjust the vehicle’s clearance to up to 450mm, are other features. To make rough terrain more manageable, hydraulic brakes with ventilated disks were also included.
The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company has teamed up to provide command center capabilities, including a data recorder, communications systems, and jamming systems.
The Eurosatory bi-annual conference is geared toward “Land, Airland, and [and] Homeland” defense professionals. The exhibition includes product demonstrations and product unveilings. It also features think tanks and conferences about topics such as military technology, logistics, field health services, and more.
