The 30i models will see a slight power boost thanks to the turbocharged inline four engine. The preliminary details suggest a slight increase in horsepower from the current 248 horsepower (185 Kilowatts) or 258 pound-feet (353 Newton-meters), to around 255 hp (190 kW) and 295lb-ft (495 Nm) respectively.

The 3.0-liter turbo-inline-six engine in the 40i models is likely to be replaced by a more powerful version. It will likely be identical to the BMW M340i’s 382 horsepower (285 kW) or 369 lbft (500 Nm). The M550i and the M5 are the top-of-the-line 5 Series models, with their 4.4-liter V8s.

After the discontinuation of the 6 Series Gran Turismo, BMW currently offers the 5 Series in the USA. The facelifted, more practical liftback is unlikely to make a return in America.
