It will follow the new Hyundai Tucson.
It is not secret that Kia is working on a new generation Sportage. The first look at the crossover was in August of this year. However, the South Korean manufacturer has kept the R&D work very secretive since then. We received confirmation that the production ready vehicle would debut in April next year a month after the spy photos were released.
AtchaCars created a plausible rendering of the new Sportage by combining all the pieces and drawing inspiration from the Hyundai Tucson. We like the renderings and hope that the final crossover will look similar.
Here, the artist explains that he expects that the Sportage will look very similar to the Tucson’s overall profile but be more subtle in the details. For example, the body lines will be more fluid and simple with less emphasis on wheel arches.
According to the designer, the new Sportage will feature a sloped roofline at its back just like the Tucson. The overall dimensions of the South Korean SUV will be slightly larger than the previous model to allow for more space in the cabin. The side mirrors will be slightly lower than the base of A-pillars and will therefore sit on the doors.
It is safe to assume that the fifth-generation Sportage (codenameNQ5) will have the same engine lineup as the new Tucson. In Europe, turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline or diesel engines with front- or all-wheel drive will be available. A 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four cylinder and a hybrid for North America should also be available. The range will soon include a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
