That’s quite a fireball.
The chance of catastrophic failure increases when you push anything beyond its limits. This video by Industrial Injection Diesel Performance is a great example of this phenomenon. The company plans to create a powerplant capable of producing a staggering 3,000 horsepower (2.237 kilowatts). The truck’s output is checked by the dyno.
This was not the engine’s first run at the dyno. This is the previous result. It’s easy to see why people want to push the limits and try again.
Below is another photo that captures the moment of destruction. The engine’s upper section can be seen rising up and the fireball below. In a flash, everything was gone.
Although the driver sustained some minor burns to his arm, there were no other serious injuries due to this catastrophic failure. Injection Diesel Performance’s engine is the real victim, although it is possible to make another one. The powerplant might be able to reach the 3,000-hp mark this time.
Injection Diesel Performance photo of the engine before it was destroyed shows that this engine isn’t one you would ever use on the streets. This beast is an opportunity for the company and its team to demonstrate what is possible and what they can engineer.
