The popularity of SUVs and crossovers is not limited to the US. Both segments are gaining popularity elsewhere, including Latin America where Chevy has added a compact crossover to its lineup, the Groove. The new model was introduced in Chile by the Detroit-based automaker, but it will be available throughout Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. It’s also affordable, but don’t expect it to be a bargain on US dealer lots.

It packs a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 110 horsepower (82 watts) and comes in both Premier or LT trims. According to GM Authority, the crossover comes standard with a front-wheel drive and a six speed manual gearbox. The SAIC-GMWuling Chinese joint venture created the Groove, which should make it look a little familiar. Baojun510 is hidden beneath the Golden Bow Tie badge. Similar to the Baojun-based Chevy Captiva, it’s also readily available.

It isn’t a cheap product, but it doesn’t make it less expensive. Although it won’t be a popular choice, standard features include four airbags, stability and traction control, and four airbags. Air conditioning, a rear view camera and an 8.2-inch infotainment display are some of the creature comforts. The Groove Premier offers automatic climate control, LED lighting and leather-trimmed seats.

Although it’s a great package, especially considering its price, it is lacking many safety features and other amenities that customers value. They would be more expensive than adding them, and the engine would need to be replaced with a more powerful engine that is more appealing to American buyers. It’s affordable and sold right where it is, so consumers around the world can have a well-equipped vehicle that they can afford. The design also matches the rest of Chevy’s global range.
