After Overlanding Year, Suzuki Jimny Owner’s Pros and Cons

Although the Jimny is wonderful, it’s far from perfect.

Since he drove it off the showroom, the Roam overlanding YouTube channel operator has had his Suzuki Jimny for just over a year. He has made the small off-roader an overlander capable of traveling long distances across Africa. The owner gives a fair evaluation of his Suzuki in a new video. He discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using this small SUV for long trips into the wilderness.

According to the owner, the biggest problem with the Jimny’s use for overlanding purposes is its size. Because of its small footprint, the vehicle can only carry a limited amount. The vehicle has enough space for camping on weekends, but it is difficult to pack all the gear when you are going on a week-long trip.

After Overlanding Year, Suzuki Jimny Owner's Pros and Cons

The Jimny is still relatively new on the market. This means there is not much aftermarket. Because there are not many upgrades available, the owner must come up with unique solutions.

The Jimny’s 1.5-liter engine produces 105 horsepower (78kilowatts) outside of Japan. According to the owner, the vehicle would benefit from more power. Also, the fuel tank is small which limits the driving distance.

A larger vehicle is necessary for the types of adventures Roam Overlanding desires to undertake. Although the Jimny is an excellent off-roader with great range and cargo capacity, it has some limitations.

Although it may not resolve the problem of a lack in power, there are rumors that Suzuki might introduce a five-door, larger version of the Jimny. A larger size would allow for more gear to be carried on adventures.
