The numbers aren’t lying.
The video shows the M3 being created by taking a 320 Wagon and removing all its components and replacing them with F80 M3 parts. This includes the seats and body panels. The transformation of the Bimmer’s crazy car produced 540 horsepower (402 Kilowatts), compared to the M340i’s 374 HP (278 kW), so the results are predictable.
The M3 wonder wagon is equipped with an upgraded engine and exhaust components. This makes it easy to win the soundcheck. While its straight-six growl is both harsh and reserved, it sounds equally as vicious as its rival. It’s not an exact comparison, but it is clear that the custom car wins by a wide margin.
The M340i, which is less powerful than its rear-wheel drive counterpart, wins off-the-line, but loses the quarter-mile race. The same result is achieved with several more attempts starting from a standing position.
Only the brake test is a competition in which the factory Bimmer can win. The result is close enough that it can be considered within the margin of error for each driver who dropped an anchor. Apart from the performance in the video clip, the crazy Touring Frankenstein car will hopefully be able to soothe the pains of BMW enthusiasts who wanted a factory-produced version in the United States.
