Check out the Inside Lexus IS F Motor After 220,000 Miles of Hard Driving

This is a view at the top of the engine.

This video will not surprise mechanics, whether they are professionals or amateurs. Toyota has a reputation for quality over the years, and Lexus is part of that reputation by default. This is not the surprise we are talking about, but the long-lasting effects regular maintenance can have on any engine, even high-performance ones that have been driven hard.

This Wrench Everyday video shows that this is the Lexus IS F 2008 model. It boasts a 5.0-liter V8 and 416 horsepower. This video shows a car that isn’t stock. It claims it has 450 horsepower and has also traveled quite a bit. There are more than 220,000 miles on the odometer. The last 45,000 miles have been driven in track events and road rallies. This Lexus won’t be going quiet into the night.

This brings us to the core of the video. It shows the IS F being serviced with a variety of maintenance items. The rear control arms and wheel bearings are replaced. The latter were upgraded to adjustable components that were less expensive than the stock Lexus parts. The video shows that OEM Lexus parts can be quite expensive. However, those who are interested in buying IS F parts can do some smart research to find quality aftermarket parts at a lower price.

This work eventually leads to a leaking valve cover and an engine. To replace the seals, you will need to remove the covers. This opens the top of your engine and allows you to see the large DOHC heads. Despite the fact that they had covered 220,000 miles, the heads were still clean and free from any gunky buildup that may occur over time.

However, just because the heads are clean at the top doesn’t mean that the bottom is in good condition, it doesn’t necessarily tell us how much wear there might be. It’s still a sign that the engine has been maintained well. This means that this sports sedan with high mileage could continue to rip up the asphalt for many more miles on its quest for immortality.
