Apple CarPlay and Android Auto finally available.
We have good news for those who were disappointed by the Infiniti offerings. They are still far behind in terms car connectivity and infotainment. Infiniti just announced that their next-generation Infiniti InTouch infotainment system will be available to all key vehicles by 2020. This includes the Q50 and Q60. The dual-screen layout is still used, but the interface and overall design have been updated to keep up with the times.
Finally, we can see integration of Apple CarPlay (depending upon certain markets) via a wireless connection. This replaces the finicky wireless versions. The new navigation software will be much more accurate and take note of live traffic information, route based on turn-by-turn directions and real-time traffic conditions. A Wi-Fi hotspot allows up to seven devices to connect simultaneously. Over-the-air updates can also be supported to ensure that relevant software and maps are always up-to-date. A faster processor is said to make the experience even more enjoyable.
Eric Rigaux is the General Manager of Product Strategy and planning for Infiniti. He said that “having listened to our customers, we’ve vastly improved system features, intuitive use, and functionality. To allow most drivers to connect their phones to the car, we made it a priority to include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in all new models. In-car connectivity is easy and intuitive with the latest INFINITI InTouch (tm). dual screens. This allows drivers and passengers to enjoy the benefits of in-car connectivity while driving.
