Honda Introduces New Cabin Air Filter to Fight Coronavirus

Four layers capture coronavirus in the material before it reaches the cabin.

Although the COVID-19 vaccines are being distributed, it will be a while before everyone has them. We all need to be safe until then. Honda Motor Europe now has a product that will prevent people from getting coronavirus. According to the company, its premium cabin filter can capture and activate almost 100 percent of viral load.

There are four layers to the filter. The filter has four layers. For further filtration, the third uses activated charcoal. The fourth captures virus particles using a fruit extract.

“As society is more aware than ever about the effects of germs and virus such as COVID-19 on our health, we expect the demand to grow rapidly for protective solutions,” Eiichi Hino (President Honda Access Europe NV) stated.

These recommendations are also provided by the company for driving COVID-19-free. Although it may seem contrary to what you would expect, increasing fresh air flow through the cabin can help protect the vehicle from viruses. Because more air increases the dilution rate of aerosols in the air, this is a good thing. Honda suggests changing the cabin filter more frequently than usual in order to ensure maximum protection.

Motor1.com reached out to Honda in an effort to determine if the cabin filter is currently available in the US. Motor1.com spoke to Lynn Seely, a Honda spokesperson, who confirmed that the cabin filter was only available in Europe.

This component, which is an alternative to the standard Honda pollen filters, is now available in Europe on all Honda models.

Honda is not the only one working to improve air filtration systems that prevent COVID-19 from being contracted by occupants. The upcoming Mercedes-Benz electric sedan will have an optional HEPA system, which can create the air quality in an operating room. HEPA filtering has been an option on Tesla models for many years.
