BMW X5 Designer Criticizes the New 2 Series Coupe

“Too many angles, too many shapes”

BMW is constantly in the news for its latest designs over the past few months. People have been complaining about how the exterior design of new Bimmers has changed since the HTML4/ duo arrived. Frank Stephenson, the ex-BMW designer and the original BMW X5, has been a vocal critic of the new kidney grilles. He has many comments about the 2 Series.

A new video of his 13-minutes is available on his YouTube channel YouTube Channel, the legendary automotive designer begins by praising German company for not using large grilles on their new coupe. The fact that the new 2 Series’ front fascia is so bland you won’t recognize it as a BMW quickly dampens his enthusiasm.

“The headlights look very strange. As I look at the front end, it is slowly beginning to fall apart in my eyes. Stephenson: “I am looking at a headlight with a completely different language to the lower vent beneath it, as the grille as well the lower grille as well the bonnet.”

Stephenson will give his final verdict on the front-end design. He doesn’t want to “fix it” as you would have to start over.

Want more? Stephenson calls the car’s hood “cartoonish”, as it is too long for a small coupe. “I believe the proportions of the car are off in the sense the front wheel must be repositioned.”

This is certainly one of the strongest opinions that we have heard about BMW’s new design language. We would love to hear from you, so please leave your thoughts below in the comments.
