It didn’t take too long.
It’s only been two days since the new 2020 Subaru BRZ was announced. The new model receives a modest power boost thanks to a larger 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine. Although it’s a positive step forward for small sports cars, some people have bigger dreams.
On Facebook, enter XTomi Design. These renderings are unofficial and focus on the BRZ, especially in regards to a variant of the boy-racer STI and a smooth-looking convertible. You already know that there are many people thinking about these things. Now, with some visually appealing visuals, they aren’t bad suggestions.
It is unlikely that many people have thought about a BRZ convertible. This droptop is a far more elegant option than the STI’s shouty interpretation. The new BRZ has been criticized for looking like a number of different coupes due to its fastback roof. However, removing the top will solve that problem. This machine is not as essential as an MX-5 Miata. It could also be an attractive, affordable, open-air tourer.
It’s not the first time that someone has attempted to enter the high-performance market with a BRZ STI mockup. However, the updated design seems well-suited to add visual aggression. Many people have compared the BRZ’s front to the Dodge Viper’s last-gen Dodge Viper. This version has a larger hood scoop, which adds to its appeal. The subtle body kit that lowers the nose and sides just a little gives the car a true STI feel. This thing could be amazing if you add a turbocharger because so many people want.
What are the chances that Subaru would take the BRZ these directions? Convertibles are unlikely as they add weight, which can affect the distribution of mass. This would be a violation of Subaru’s sporty sports car formula. However, adding power and aero tweaks to the suspension can improve this formula.
It is not clear whether Subaru would offer a BRZ STI alongside the WRX STI. This was not the case for the previous-generation model. It is likely that it will for the new one.
