It is as insane as it seems.
A Mustang might not be the best choice for a hill climb. However, this isn’t your average pony car. It is not difficult to see that the most obvious modification is the larger tires and wider axles to support them. Instead of installing a lift kit, and maintaining the same track widths, the owner decided that he would simply increase the axles to build the most outrageous vehicle we have ever seen.
The gen 2 Coyote’s 5.0-liter V8 produces power. It has been extensively modified to generate roughly 1,200 horsepower (894.8 Kilowatts) to drive the wheels. A pair of 67mm turbochargers are responsible for the insane power numbers. They are connected to exhaust exits mounted on the hood, similar to Ken Block’s Hoonicorn. Turbos can reduce the low-end torque that you would normally want from an offroader but it doesn’t seem to matter with this beast.
The hill climb race was decided by the owner. He decided to put the MUDstang against a slightly modified version. It was a bit like bringing your knife to a fight with a machine gun. Surprisingly, the Mustang underdog managed to conquer the hill on its first attempt, but it struggled when the course was wet. Important to note is that the larger tires played an important role in this race, as well as the huge power gap.
It doesn’t matter how much or little we learn from drag racing, it was refreshing to see such an insane car build. This shows that even with all the advanced technology, someone can still build an MUDstang-type creation.
