This is the most thrilling V10 sports car ever made.
Connaught Type-D GT is a passion project by a former Jaguar engineer, who began his own car company in the early 2000s. The vision was to create a V10-powered hybrid sports car. The Connaught team’s lofty engineering goals meant that their creation was never fully produced. The company went bankrupt in 2004 because of financial pressures. This futuristic hybrid drivetrain, which combined lightweight sports cars with hybrid tech, was the height of innovation in 2004, especially considering that the Toyota Prius was the only current hybrid.
The Connaught type-D GT was powered with a 2.0-liter supercharged V10 motor that produced 300 horsepower (223kW) and 274lb-ft (371nm) respectively. The engine was connected to a 5-speed manual transmission. It was placed very far back to create a mid-engine layout. This tiny V10 was intended to be enhanced by a hybrid system to support torque fill and enable the Connaught Type-D GT achieve remarkable fuel economy.
Bevan Davidson International, a Welsh-based engineering company, recently acquired the Connaught Type-D GT’s name and assets. This unique organization is specialized in creating experimental vehicles. They are uniquely qualified to take on the daunting task of restoring this lost car. The Connaught Type-D GT is now in production thanks to the original designer. We can’t wait!
