Expect surprises.
The electric Ford F-150 will not begin to roll out from the company’s new Rouge Electric Vehicle Center before mid-2022. Ford claims it will be the fastest and most powerful F-150, but this is a bold claim that needs to be verified. This will be a great move for the truck, as more automakers concentrate on electric vehicles. Although we have yet to see an electrified F-150 in production, our rendering attempts to show what it might look like once it does.
An earlier teaser image of the F-150 showed a model that looked very similar to the 2021 model. The mirrors and fenders were taken straight from the gas-powered model. The rendering is almost identical to any other F-150. The truck does have a full-width lightbar across the front like the pickup in this teaser. It is one of the few design variations Ford have shown thus far.
Ford will place the light bar in front of a large trunk at the front that can hold hundreds of pounds of cargo. This is just one of many features Ford has planned to position the pickup for hardworking customers. The electric F-150 will allow buyers to operate it as a mobile generator and receive over-the-air-updates. Dual electric motors will be used to power the pickup, one per axle. However, the EcoBoost V6’s 450-horsepower EcoBoost V6 will produce more than the pickup’s output.
The F-150 electric pickup is just one of many electrified pickups that will be available in the coming years. General Motors is fast preparing its GMC Hummer EEV pickup, which could arrive in 2022. Meanwhile, the Tesla Cybertruck continues receiving attention. The Rivian R1T is also in development. Ford has one F-150 and that F-150 is vitally important, so Ford’s new electric pickup is a big deal. The success of the electric pickup could inspire other automakers to follow Ford’s lead.
