Audi 8-speed to Replace 6-speed Automatic in Most Ranges

What Audi models will be available in the US with an eight-speed auto transmission? It seems that about 70% of them. Learn more.

According to AutoWeek, Audi will use the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission on all cars sold in the United States. AutoWeek cites the 2011 dealer order guide, which states that the transmission will be used by approximately 70% of American vehicles.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged versions, including the Avant and A4 four-doors, Avant and A5 coupe and cabrio, as well as the Q5, are all available. All versions of Q7 will be available with the ZF eight speed.

All A6 and all S6 units, along with the front-wheel drive A4 and A5, A5 and S5 coupes, the 3.2-liter A5 and Q5 will be offered with either the six speed automatic or the CVT. The new plan will not affect cars that were sold with the dual clutch automated manual gearbox. The R8 V8 will continue to be available with the six-speed manual gearbox or the R-Tronic.

These cars’ 2011 model years should be available for purchase by the end of this year. Audi may make an announcement in the coming weeks.
