Barrett-Jackson organized an auction that sold the BMW M5 “30 Jahren M5” (US-spec), for $700,000.
BMW’s most powerful model was only 300 examples, but only 30 cars made it to the United States. Barrett-Jackson sold the last one for $700,000. All proceeds went to the BMW Club of America Foundation, which is responsible for safety programs for teens and other charitable activities.
Rick Hendrik, a NASCAR team owner and also owns a BMW dealership located in Charleston, South Carolina was the winning bidder. Although it may not be what you want to hear, Rick stated that he will not actually use the M5 “30 Jahre” because “this baby’s going right alongside the i8 museum. It will only travel a few miles in the truck that transports it from Arizona to North Carolina.
The special M5 has 600 HP and 700 Nm from its upgraded V8 4.4-liter twin turbo engine. The M5 can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h), and with the optional M Driver’s Package, it can go 190 mph (355 km/h). But it won’t be enough for this car. It will only sit in a museum, displaying its Individual Frozen Dark Silver paint job and dark chrome accents.
