We are not surprised by the result, but have some reservations.
Motor1.com isn’t new to seeing gasoline-powered cars match up with electric vehicles. There have been several drag race matchesups in the past, mostly featuring Teslas vs. other cars on the market, either mainstream or supercars.
It’s Porsche’s turn this time with its Taycan Turbo S. This top-spec Taycan is faster than 10 supercars based upon its acceleration rate. That list also includes the Lamborghini Aventador SV. Can the all-electric Porsche sedan defeat the V12-engined Lambo in a straight-line race? Lovecars has the exact matchup on its latest YouTube upload, which we embedded in this story. The contest is quite perfect, with the cars sprinting to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds. The Aventador is powered by a naturally-aspirated, 6.5-liter V12 and the Taycan has two electric motors. Both send power to the four corners.
In terms of maximum power output, the Taycan Turbo S as well as the AventadorSV are almost identical. The Taycan Turbo S’s torque is comparable to the Taycan Turbo S’s with a maximum pull of 774 pound feet (1,050 Newton meters).
The Taycan is heavier than the Lambo, giving the latter a higher power-to-weight ratio. This should have automatically given the Aventador SV victory in this drag racing. But, as you probably know, it wasn’t.
Although it is surprising, it is important to note that Aventador SV ran a slower 0-62 time (3.84 secs which was a full second slower on paper) in this race.
