According to the company, it is possible to start selling 3D-printed body kits next spring.
1016 Industries is working to create 3d-printed body parts for automobiles in large enough quantities to allow for scaled manufacturing. They created this crazy body kit for a McLaren to test it out. Although the styling is not for everyone, it’s interesting to see how the technology works.
This body kit, with its exposed wiring and lack of paint, is not yet ready for production. The company has found that the material is able to withstand the abuse of daily driving without any failures.
Peter Northrop, CEO of 1016 Industries, stated that 3D printing has been a difficult addition to our production process. We were impressed by the performance of the prototype 720S. Although the material isn’t yet proven to be suitable for long-term prototyping, our testing has shown that 3D printed technology can be used in a car that is drivable. 1016 Industries is currently investigating the extent of this technology and is currently trying to determine its effectiveness.
1016 Industries is confident that it will be able to launch a complete 3D-printed body kit in the early 2021. It should be something that is both fascinating and eye-catching.
