It is said that imitation is the best form of flattery, but Mercedes-Benz doesn’t seem too pleased to see its G-Class transformed into this strange Chinese copy. The BJ80 is not a complete knockoff, as it incorporates G-Wagen styling cues along with Land Rover Discovery-derived headlights.
This vehicle was actually inspired by the military-spec 80 VJ, which evolved into a civilian B80V variant. The BJ80 civilian version has a more aggressive body with 21-inch alloy wheels, while the V8 4.0-liter engine is unknown.
This is not a replica per-se. Although BAIC Motor reached an agreement with Daimler in late 2012 that allows them to use Mercedes-Benz architectures, they could have done better in the design department of this BJ80.
